What is Pulmonary Fibrosis?

Pulmonary Fibrosis involves scarring of the lung. Gradually, the air sacs of the lungs become replaced by fibrotic tissue. When the scar forms, the tissue becomes thicker causing an irreversible loss of the tissue’s ability to transfer oxygen into the bloodstream.

What are the symptoms?

  • Shortness of breath, particularly with exertion

  • Chronic dry, hacking cough

  • Fatigue and weakness

  • Discomfort in the chest

  • Loss of appetite

  • Rapid weight loss

What is the prevalence of Pulmonary Fibrosis?

There are five million people worldwide that are affected by this disease. In the United States there are over 200,000 patients with Pulmonary Fibrosis. As a consequence of misdiagnosis the actual numbers may be significantly higher. Of these more than 40,000 expire annually. This is the same as die from Breast Cancer. Typically, patients are in their forties and fifties when diagnosed. However, diagnoses have ranged from age seven to the eighties. Current research indicates that many infants are afflicted by Pediatric Interstitial Lung Disease. At this time there is limited data on prevalence for this group.

What are the causes?

Traditional theories have postulated that it might be an autoimmune disorder, or the after effects of an infection, viral in nature. There is a growing body of evidence which points to a genetic predisposition. A mutation in the SP-C protein has been found to exist in families with a history of Pulmonary Fibrosis. The most current thinking is that the fibrotic process is a reaction to microscopic injury to the lung. While the exact cause remains unknown, associations have been made with the following:

  •  Inhaled environmental and occupational pollutants

  • Cigarette smoking

  • Diseases such as Scleroderma, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus and Sarcoidosis

  • Certain medications

  • Therapeutic radiation

Vitalzym

Enzymes normally found in the body are needed for each of the millions of biochemical reactions in our body. Without these enzymes, human life could not exist.

Why Systemic Enzymes

Enzymes are the building blocks of life. Enzymes are the biocatalysts necessary for the chemical reactions associated with breathing, growth, reproduction, digestion and all other metabolic functions. For most people under the age of 25, enzymes are efficiently produced by the body to maintain optimal health. As we age, our levels of enzyme production begin to decelerate. This reduction of enzyme levels may cause our bodies and normal body functions to break down.*

Supplementation with systemic enzymes may help the body to more efficiently use its own metabolic enzymes, thereby reducing the physiological effects of aging. Vitalzym is a unique blend of powerful systemic enzymes that may help the body to more efficiently use its own metabolic enzymes.*

Physicians in Europe and Asia have long prescribed systemic enzyme supplements to restore enzyme levels and promote natural healing. Combined with professional healthcare, proper diet and exercise, Vitalzym may help you to maintain proper enzyme amounts and balance your body's own repair mechanisms.*

Proprietary Blend

Vitalzym is recommended by healthcare professionals worldwide. The unique blend of vegetarian enzymes, f1avonoids, and antioxidants has been formulated for 100% bioavailability.

Serrapeptase, a key ingredient in Vitalzym, was originally discovered in Japan and is commercially produced there for medical applications. It has been used as a substitute for animal-derived enzymes, such as chymotrypsin, due to its stronger effect in terms of bradykinin-decomposing activity. The serrapeptase used in Vitalzym is the same as that used by the Japanese pharmaceutical blend of serrapeptase. (Dasen, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited)

New Advanced Delivery System - Enteric Coated Liquid Filled Capsule

Vitalzym has been reformulated with a technologically advanced delivery system that allows for reduced dosage and vastly increased effectiveness.

Enteric Coating - The effectiveness of any systemic enzyme is determined by the amount of activity level in the brood stream (in vivo) after being absorbed from small intestine. Enzymes, whose activities are significantly lost in an acidic environment, must be protected for their utmost effectiveness. Enzymes will begin to lose their activity once introduced into the low pH (1.0 - 3.0) acids of the stomach. The amount of activity loss is dependent upon the individual enzyme and the amount of time in the stomach. Studies have shown that unprotected enzymes can lose up to 100% of their activity in fewer than 30 minutes in pH levels below 3.0. The only method to ensure that 100% of the ingredients are not destroyed by the stomach acids is to enteric coat the enzymes. Vitalzym has been reformulated to use a pharmaceutical grade enteric coated gel capsule.

The new enteric coated gel capsule has been designed to pass both the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) and JP (Japan Pharmacopeia) disintegration tests for enteric coated capsules. Every production batch is tested to meet the agency guidelines before exportation to the US. Though revolutionary to nutritional enzyme blends, this enteric coating process is similar to those used in today's most advanced pharmaceuticals. The capsule has a corn protein shell barrier that allows it to withstand the extremely low pH levels found in the stomach. Once introduced to the pancreatic juices in the duodenum (upper small intestine), the shell barrier breaks down to release its enzymes. The enzymes are then absorbed into the blood stream through the lining of the small intestine. The corn protein barrier is the same as that used by the Japanese pharmaceutical blend of serrapeptase.  Solubilized Liquid Filled Gel Capsule - At the center of the advanced delivery system is a new Solubilized Liquid Filled Gel Capsule. The technology of liquid enzymes is superior to that of capsules filled with powder due to low heat production, more uniform dose distribution and prolonged enzyme activity.

Low Heat Production - Enzyme blends are available today that use an enteric coating, however they are in tablet form. The disadvantage of these blends is the amount of heat created when compressing the ingredients in to a tablet. Enzymes are susceptible to high temperatures and may begin to degrade during the manufacturing process. Solubilized Liquid Filled Capsules allow for an enteric coated enzyme without activity loss from heat. Throughout all of the processes, Vitalzym is produced under strictly controlled temperature ranges.

Optimal Distribution - Liquid enzymes are able to provide a more uniform dose consistency because the mixing of liquids allows for optimal particle distribution. In powder formulations, each particle of a different enzyme is different in size, causing greater friction between particles when mixing. Excipients are introduced to powder formulations to help increase the mixability, however liquids still prove to be far more evenly distributed allowing for more consistent dosages in each capsule.

Prolonged Enzyme Activity - Enzyme blends retain moisture from water when they are produced. When tested using the industry standard "loss on drying" measurement, these blends typically have a 5-10% moisture content. Powder enzyme blends will lose activity as this moisture dries, resulting in a loss of up to 20% of activity over a 12 month period. Vitalzym uses enzymes with higher purity and less moisture that are combined with Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCT).
The process of combining with the MCT's causes the moisture to separate from the enzyme blend so that it can be removed before encapsulation. As a result, there is no loss of enzyme activity after production due to moisture drying. Users will also experience the many health benefits of MCT's. Vitalzym has been reformulated with a technologically advanced delivery system that allows for reduced dosage and vastly increased effectiveness.

MADE IN JAPAN UNDER PHARMACEUTICAL GUIDELINES

Vitalzym is registered as an export medicine, and thus regulated by the Pharmaceutical and Food Safety Bureau under the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in Japan. This agency is the Japanese counterpart of the FDA of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Since Vitalzym is regulated as a pharmaceutical in Japan, it must adhere to manufacturing requirements that are far more stringent than dietary supplements manufactured in the United States. Supplements manufactured in the United States are considered food grade, and thus, not regulated as pharmaceuticals.

Quality control requirements of a licensed pharmaceutical facility are considered the most hygienic of any industry. Extreme measures are taken to avoid any possibility of contamination. Precautions include clean rooms, dust particle control, and sophisticated air filtration systems. All laboratory equipment and safety measures are inspected by the government during frequent site facility inspections. Each inspection must be passed in order to retain the export licensure.

World Nutrition is also required to notify the Japanese Pharmaceutical and Food Safety Bureau of any variance to the registered ingredient blend. Any blend change would require a new registration for export. Every batch of product must be inspected before and after mixing to test adherence to the registered blend. In addition, every lot of raw materials received by our manufacturing facility must be tested independently of the supplier for safety, impurities, potency, and accuracy. These records must be disclosed upon facility inspections.

These pharmaceutical guidelines unique to Vitalzym ensure each and every capsule is of the utmost purity, potency, and safety.

DOSAGE

This dosage recommendation is for most users. The dosage recommended by your healthcare professional may differ. As a dietary supplement, take 3-6 capsules daily with water. It is best to take Vitalzym at least 30 minutes before a meal, 60 minutes after a meal, or anytime in between meals. Your healthcare professional may also recommend a higher activation dosage. Warning: If you are currently taking anti-coagulants (blood thinners), do not take this product without the consent of your healthcare professional.

  DETOXIFICATION

Systemic enzymes may help rid the body of toxins. Some users will experience a detoxification reaction to the enzymes, including short-term fatigue, nausea, fogginess, or headache. Though uncomfortable, this detoxification is beneficial to the body. Increased water intake can assist in the process, or reducing enzyme dosage will slow the rate of detoxification. If symptoms persist, contact your healthcare professional.

Vitalzym Highlights

Definition of enzymes

Enzymes are proteins that act as catalysts, speeding the rate at which biochemical reactions proceed but not altering the direction or nature of the reactions. Enzymes are found in every cell of every living plant and animal, including humans. As biocatalysts, they either begin a reaction or cause a reaction to speed up.

The enzymatic process

Enzymes work by virtue of their shape. An enzyme molecule can be compared, in shape at least, to many short strings of pearls (amino acids) strung together. This long string folds in on itself as certain sequences of amino acids are more attracted to each other than to other sequences, thus giving the enzymes a specific shape.

At one point on the surface of this string of pearls there exists something resembling a keyhole. This is called the "active site" on the enzyme. When matched with its specific coenzyme (a vitamin, mineral, or trace element), this "lock" has the exact inverse contour of the "key" contained in the molecule of the enzyme's "substrate" (the molecule that the enzyme wants to transform into a different molecule). When the substrate appears, it inserts the "key" into the "lock." The molecular structure of the substrate is transformed into a different molecular structure and both enzyme and the newly transformed molecule are free to part.

Systemic enzyme supplementation

Systemic enzyme supplementation utilizes an abundance of enzymes to increase the total number of enzymes throughout the body to assist normal, healthy functions.

Why Systemic Enzymes

As you may know, enzymes normally found in the body are the essential building blocks of life. They are key to the body’s ability to properly digest and benefit from the food we eat, and they provide the energy we use for muscles, cells, nerves, tissue, bone, and glands. As such, these enzymes help the chemical reactions responsible for breathing, digestion, growth, reproduction, and most other body functions.

Dr. Max Wolf, M.D., who researched enzymes and hormones at Columbia University from the 1930's through the 1960's, determined that enzyme production diminishes in humans after age 27. While humans have historically supplemented their enzyme levels by consuming fresh, raw foods, modern preservation and preparation techniques often destroy the enzymes these foods contain. Combined, these conditions create an enzyme deficiency that causes our bodies and normal body functions to break down.

What does this mean? It means we must supplement our diets with systemic enzymes – those that offer system-wide benefits – just as we supplement the vitamins, minerals, and herbs that are essential for good health.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between digestive enzymes and systemic enzymes?
Digestive enzymes are found inside the digestive track where they are used to aid in food digestion. Systemic enzymes are formulated to resist the acidic environment of the stomach so that they can be absorbed into the bloodstream from the small intestine. Once in the bloodstream, the body is able to use them throughout the entire body.

Why is there a caution against taking Vitalzym with anticoagulant medications?
Vitalzym may help to cleanse the blood of debris and excess protein. The blood may become thinner as a result of this cleansing. Vitalzym may also help to better absorb your anticoagulant medication. You should speak with your healthcare professional before taking Vitalzym in conjunction with your blood thinning medication.

Can I take Vitalzym with food? YES

Can I take Vitalzym if I am pregnant or lactating?
There have not been any studies regarding supplementation of these enzymes while pregnant or lactating. We recommend speaking with your healthcare professional before taking Vitalzym while pregnant or lactating.

Can children take Vitalzym?
No dosage has been set for children. We recommend speaking with your pediatrican about the benefits of Vitalzym and a proper dosage.

Can pets take Vitalzym?
Many veterinarians use Vitalzym to improve the health of their patients. Dosages vary significantly. We recommend speaking with your veterinarian about a proper dosage.
We at Golden Illumination give our dog who is 22 lbs one capsule away from food. I would suggest a dog that is 40 lbs or over... 2 gel caps 1 -2x a day. I dip one end of the gel cap in a small amount of clarified butter (Ghee), if you do not have Ghee you can use a small amount of butter. I then hold the other end of the capsule and our dog takes it into his mouth and swallows it so easily.

Where should I store my Vitalzym?
Vitalzym does not need to be refrigerated. Simply store in a cool, dry place for maximum life span of the enzyme activity.

Is there any Detoxification when initially taking Vitalzym?
Systemic enzymes may help rid the body of toxins. Some users will experience a detoxification reaction to the enzymes, including short term fatigue, nausea, fogginess, or headache.
Though uncomfortable, this detoxification is beneficial to the body. Increased water intake can assist in the process, or reducing enzyme dosage will slow the rate of detoxification. If symptoms persist, contact your healthcare professional.

For pain or inflamation: Start with 3 capsules and if you still experience pain increase the dosage by 3 until you reach a level of comfort.
