n This Website Contain the KDF 55

KDF 55KDF 55 is a patented product a major advancement in water treatment technology that works on the electro-chemical and spontaneous-oxidation-reduction (REDOX) principles, representing a new and unique way of water processing medium which by its natural process of electrochemical oxidation/reduction and adsorption action reduces and/or removes many unwanted contaminants from water.

KDF media consists of a high purity copper-zinc formulation. These substances exchange electrons or bond with chlorine and other metals contained in the water to create harmless substances.

It operates as a multifunctional medium which has superior capabilities of dechlorination and reduction of dissolved heavy metals drinking water. The dechlorination capacity of KDF 55 medium exceeds that of an equal quantity of activated carbon by over ten-fold.

The process used is known as REDOX (oxidation/reduction), KDF works behind the scenes to rid your water of chlorine, lead, mercury, iron and hydrogen sulfide. The REDOX reaction also inhibits the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi. As an added benefit, KDF also inhibits bacteria growth (fungi, algae and mold) and eliminates the need for silver that is commonly used in carbon-only filters. Silver is considered a pesticide by the EPA and, as such, must be registered with EPA.

KDF is completely safe and meets EPA and FDA standards for levels of zinc and copper in potable water. Copper and zinc are added to the water during the process in very small amounts, about 0.05 mg/l copper and 0.46 mg/l zinc was measured in tests. The EPA levels are 1.0 mg/l for copper and 5.0 mg/l for zinc. Both zinc and copper are essential minerals for good health and the FDA recommends a daily intake of 15 mg of zinc and 2 mg of copper.

Carbon is extremely porous and provides a large surface.Carbon is extremely porous and provides a large surface area for contaminants to collect. Carbon-only filters must also use their capacity for chlorine removal, resulting in a shortened life. They also may use a bituminous coal carbon, which is good at removing chlorine, but not as effective at removing chemicals. We use a high-grade coconut shell carbon that is most effective at removing chemicals. Coconut shell carbon provides a significantly higher volume of micropores than either coal, wood or lignite-based carbon.

As a result, it is more effective than other carbon types in removing trihalomethanes (THM's) and other chemicals from municipally supplied water. Since our REDOX media removes the chlorine before it reaches the carbon, the carbon capacity is not wasted on chlorine and is free to concentrate more effectively on organic contaminants.

Clean Water Facts

There have been a half-million new chemicals developed since 1965 alone!

Most of these organic pollutants are modern hydrocarbon chemicals such as plastics and pesticides. Some are non-biodegradable. Most are soluble in water and thousands are known to be toxic!

Industry - Agriculture - Cities
All dump contaminates in the ground and in our water!

In 1991, the U.S. Congressional Research Service revealed that 10% of the 1.4 million underground gasoline storage tanks in the U.S. are currently leaking. There are also an estimated 16,000 municipal landfills and 181,000 industrial waste sites in the United States that leech contaminants into our water supplies. Agricultural pesticides and highway de-icing chemicals are other contaminants.

Contamination in the distribution System!
Sure, your tap water gets treated by the city, but what happens to it on the way to your house?

Water can become contaminated during its journey from treatment plant to home. Lead, asbestos, and cement pipes used in municipal water distribution systems can allow harmful substances to leech into drinking water!

Municipal Water Treatment
The chlorine used to treat tap water can cause health problems including arteriosclerosis!

Chlorine, used by municipalities to disinfect water supplies can react with naturally occurring organic materials in water. For example, decayed leaves reacting with chlorine can create trichlorethanes, a suspected cancer-causing chemical.
Dr. Joseph M. Price, MD in his book "Coronaries / Cholesterol / Chlorine", wrote that the cause of arteriosclerosis, resulting in heart attacks and strokes is none other than the chlorine in our drinking water.

A recent study by the U.S. Council on Environmental Quality has established a definite link in the chlorination of water and cancer. One of the studies showed that the cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those who live where water is not chlorinated.
